go fish from Making A Lather

I have made HSTS for fish school/ kismet in pink for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. hmmm

When I said I was going to keep the rainbow projects simple this year, I may have reduced the projects tooo much. Time to reconsider for the year.

I am actually finished with what I need for this year's rsc projects in pink. I looked around and found an older ufo in pink and brown, that, I am going to see if I can move forward until the end of the month. I don't have plans to finish it ...

go fish - blue from Making A Lather

Last year's quiltville leader / ender challenge was fish school. I did cut all the strips I would need for the triangles according to the rsc color of the month for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.. This year, I plan to cut the triangles and sew them into fish school blocks. These are the blue for the month of January. Eventually, I will use them in a quiltville quilt called kismet.

I am also cutting the sashings for an older ufo quiltville garlic knots. The blocks are made, but, there are these pesky sashing and border pieces that ...

Garlic Knots Finished , and a Swing from Elaine Adair Pieces

Garlic Knots, from Quiltville, done - I added the "cross" sashing to fill up the white space between blocks.  Border was my own idea and someone called it a "zipper" design.  The border was done using a ruler, but my DSM has issues when MQ'ing backwards.  Suggestions anyone?  It can handle going backwards at an angle, just not straight back.  Stitches are terrible, so I unsewed and redid a LOT of stitches - shoulda checked after the first few.

For years, the swing has been a planned purchase, "for when the deck is redone" - let's face it -- a wood deck ...

Newish techniques, old favorite things from Elaine Adair Pieces

Garlic Knots - I'm practicing ruler work in the border - tedious, but kinda cool as well.  I lost my way, here and there.  Seams under the ruler sometimes helped, sometimes hindered.  I need to improve on sharper corners, and I also wish I had left more extra batting and backing on the outside of the border, to grip.  Two more sides to do, then just binding and it will be D O N E!

I added a strip of sandpaper to the back of my ruler.   It might not be needed by others but helped me hold onto the fabric ...

Garlic Knots - MQ'ing, DSM from Elaine Adair Pieces

Basting is my least favorite part of quiltmaking, but years ago, I bought 2 folding picnic tables and have used them frequently.  I even have risers to use when standing up.  I've also decided I have better success using both spray and pins.  This pattern came from Bonnie Hunter/Quiltville - I KNEW she would have the pesky pressing details worked out.  The only constant is the background and the little purple in the cross center.  This went faster than I expected.  It's about 70" x 80".  Someone called my border a "zipper" design.

Oh great - My backing was ...

Sewing Again - Garlic Knots, Border from Elaine Adair Pieces

I'm liking this border!  Using up scraps, but keeping them in a particular order, altho I'm not sure I'll have enough of all colors.  If I run out, it's doubtful if anyone will notice substitutions.

All the cleaning is done and ceiling and walls are repainted.  I'm still not sure of the new arrangement.  No pictures on the wall, and curtains not made yet.  Trim and molding are painted.  Finally I can access the (messy) closet easily.  All electrical is connected to the surge protector, and can be all turned on/off with one switch ...

It's Good to Stay Busy - Garlic Knots from Elaine Adair Pieces

Yep, another Bonnie Hunter (Quiltville.com) project.  That girl is amazing and I've loved her blog and quilt enthusiasm for many years longer than I've had a blog!

This is an old quilt design.  I plunked down my CC and got her directions from her on-line pattern because I KNEW she would have the best pressing instructions.  Blocks are set  8 x 10 and they are 6 in. finished.    I have 4 rows plus sashings just about done.  The only constant is the little purple in the center of the sashing "plus".  Each "plus" has to be planned ...

Moving Forward, One Step At a Time from Elaine Adair Pieces

80 Garlic Knot blocks from Bonnie Hunter's pattern.  Her method works like a charm, of course.  I made one or two, then sped things up by layering 5-6 deep on my sewing table.  These are 6 in. finished blocks.  And as always, all are scrappy  in purples, pinks greens, a few blues, one or two reds, and the neutral was purchased.  These will be put together with a narrow sashing with "plusses" at the cornerstones.  That's a little tedious but doable.

Thank you all, for you know what.  There is a LOT of work after losing your spouse ...

Design Wall Monday from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I seem to have finally gotten over my impulsive quilt starting phase and am now feeling motivated to finish up some projects.  So that means a lot of my design walls are empty right now.  So I spent a bit of time moving around some blocks on my design walls.
I thought I would share some photos.

In my sewing room, I have all of the blocks completed for this Kaffe quilt finished.  I just need to work on the final layout and sew it up.

On the other wall, is the RSC color block quilt.  I was hoping to ...
